仿佛已經(jīng)把到了GRE填詞題的脈搏?

今天，用一道兩空題和一道三空題來檢測一下?

Fears that the recent sharp rise in oil prices is an indication that oil is running out appear to be (i)_____. The Middle East still contains vast oil supplies. 單看第一句本身，發(fā)現(xiàn)第一欄仿佛沒有候選詞合適!!于是很需要看第二個句子來判斷。

第二空就很簡單，even if是讓步，說明從句和主句之間是“沖突”的。“取反”，從而選D，沖突于“substantial quantities”。

Twenty years ago, when the book was first published, most reviewers dismissed the author’s predictions as (i)_____. Sometimes people (ii)_____ their errors: those same reviewers today, comparing the predictions with actual events, acknowledge how (iii)_____ the author was.

alarmist不是褒義也不是中性喲，而是貶義“杞人憂天的”。符合dismiss的評價方向：負(fù)評價。

難點在于第二個句子和第一個句子之間的關(guān)系：1)“today”比較于“twenty years ago”;2)“the predictions”指的就是第一句里的“the author’s predictions”;3)第二句的“the author”可不就是第一句的author。于是，可以判斷兩個句子應(yīng)該是描述了“今昔比較”，于是意識到“errors”，通過“comparing the predictions with actual events”(把當(dāng)年的預(yù)測和如今的現(xiàn)實放在一起一比)，發(fā)現(xiàn)“the author”料事如神呀。
