本期節目話題背景 最近,有同學問了這樣一道題“Describe an advertisement you have seen but you did not like”。
Describe an advertisement you have seen but you did not like You should say: Where and when you first saw it What the advertisement was for What you could see in the advertisement And explain why you did not like the advertisement
本期節目話題參考文本 作者:Stephen I'd like to talk about an advertisement that I came across a few weeks ago while browsing the internet. It was an advertisement for a cosmetic brand that claimed to offer instant skin whitening results. The ad featured a young woman with fair skin who was shown applying the product and miraculously transforming into a flawless, fair-skinned beauty. The before-and-after photos were prominently displayed, and the ad made it seem like the product was the secret to achieving fair skin.
I found the advertisement quite offensive and misleading. Firstly, it perpetuated the idea that fair skin is somehow superior to other skin tones, which is simply not true. Additionally, the ad seemed to imply that the only way to be beautiful was to have fair skin. I believe that you can be beautiful with darker skin also.
Furthermore, the advertisement was also promoting unrealistic and potentially harmful beauty standards. Achieving fair skin is not something that can be accomplished instantly or without any effort and using products that claim to offer instant skin whitening results can cause damage to one's skin in the long run.
Overall, I think advertisements that promote unrealistic or harmful beauty standards can have a negative impact on people's self-esteem and perpetuate harmful societal norms. It's important for advertisers to be responsible and mindful of the messages they are sending out, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like body image and skin tone.
