Some people argue using a cleaner energy (to protect the environment), but others think that the traditional energy sources such as coal and oil is less expensive, what is your suggestion?
A vast majority of people favor expanding renewable sources, but the public is far less supportive of increasing the production of fossil fuels, such as oil and gas. Unfortunately, the use of those traditional energy sources is still commonplace in many places. Although such sources may be cost-effective, they are the chief culprit for global warming and prone to accidents. In fact, their renewable counterpart should be made as their replacement.
▲ Chief culprit for xx 是。。。
▲ Counterpart
e.g. Male students and their female counterpart.
Why are traditional energy sources widely applied? The first reason is simple: subsidized heavily by the government, fossil fuels are affordable. Secondly, they are deemed reliable because they can be burned day or night and they are not hindered by the weather patterns that power renewable resources, like wind and sun.
However, 【倒裝現象】behind its cheap price and reliability are several serious hazards. The most notable 【代詞, 增強與上句的銜接】one is that the carbon dioxide spewed by coal and other fossil fuels is warming the planet, 【分詞做狀語】leading to changing weather patterns, such as hot temperatures, more droughts and more erratic rainfall. Besides, when workers are exploiting oil under the sea or mining for coal underground, extreme accidents like platforms explosion and oil leak are not rare, posing a threat to the safety of earth creatures and contaminating the environment.
At this point, isn’t it clear that traditional sources, albeit cheap and reliable, should be abandoned?
● Behind
● Affordable
As a matter of fact, plenty of contenders for the energy crown now held by fossil fuels are already at hand: wind, solar, even nuclear, to name a few. Admittedly, such alternatives 【不一定要出現“不好”或者“缺點”這些概念】 cannot be perfect; instead, they also have limitations, such as the intermittent supply of power and high demand for location. However, such limitations are hardly comparable with their advantages. The primary one is that cleaner energy are environmentally friendly. This can be well exemplified by solar electrics system, which catches energy directly from the sun and therefore generate zero emissions. Secondly, such alternatives, no longer expensive, can be as cost-effective as their traditional counterparts are in terms of powering houses and businesses, particularly where utility power is expensive or unavailable. Till now, is there any reason not to choose cleaner energy over oil and coal?
● A Be hardly comparable with B
● Choose A over B: 選擇A而不是B
In conclusion, cleaner energy outshines fossil fuels and should therefore be increasingly used.
